Jack is standing next to a monument in the city square. His shadow is 18 feet long. The shadow of the monument is 150 feet long. If Jack is 6 feet tall, how tall is the monument?

OpenStudy (nurali):

Since jack is 6 feet, and his shadow is 18. That means his shadow is 3 times longer than him. So the monument is 150 feet tall, multiply that by 3 and you get 450.

ohh that makes perfect sense thanks

My Pleasure

I don't get it... if S is the shadow length and H is the height, a model for their relation is \[\Large S = 3H\] Jack's height is 6, so his shadow is 18... As for the monument, it is the shadow length that is given... \[\Large S_M = 3H_M\]\[\Large 150=3H_M \]\[\Large 50 = H_M\]

and not 450
