OpenStudy (sarahc):

Which of these actions relied on a high level of community involvement among African Americans? the Freedom Summer the March on Washington the Montgomery Bus Boycott the Woolworth's Lunch Counter Sit-in

OpenStudy (sarahc):

@radar @robtobey @ganeshie8

OpenStudy (sarahc):

help please :)

OpenStudy (zale101):

the Montgomery Bus Boycott, i think that's where Rosa Parks, a black woman, refused to give up her seat to a white man.

OpenStudy (zale101):

The Montgomery Bus Boycott, a seminal event in the U.S. civil rights movement, was a political and social protest campaign against the policy of racial segregation on the public transit system of Montgomery, Alabama. The campaign lasted from December 1, 1955, when Rosa Parks, an African American woman, was arrested for refusing to surrender her seat to a white person, to December 20, 1956, when a federal ruling, Browder v. Gayle, took effect, and led to a United States Supreme Court decision that declared the Alabama and Montgomery laws requiring segregated buses to be unconstitutional http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montgomery_Bus_Boycott

OpenStudy (sarahc):

Thanks, I feel like the first three all involve a lot of participation :(

OpenStudy (zale101):

that's what i thought, let me double check

OpenStudy (sarahc):

Ok thank you :)

OpenStudy (sarahc):

I feel like its the march on washington...250,000 people were there

OpenStudy (sarahc):

but the boycott needed community involvement :/

OpenStudy (zale101):

all i know, the Montgomery buss boycott changed america, completely. Martin Luther King stood up for his own people and became a civil rights leader because of that event. The number of passengers in the buss declined. And, African Americans thought that they can make a change by working together.

OpenStudy (zale101):

African Americans refused to ride city buses in Montgomery, Alabama, which damaged the economy.

OpenStudy (sarahc):

but the thing is I cant figure out with had the highest level of community involvement :/

OpenStudy (zale101):

The question asks you what event held a lot of impact on the African Americans, all of the choices had a little affect on the African Americans, but the Montgomery buss boycott was more.

OpenStudy (sarahc):

Well, more so relied on it

OpenStudy (zale101):

That's when the community started to protest and people decided to make a change in america. Rosa Parks was brave and accomplished the volition of all African Americans.

OpenStudy (sarahc):

its asking what event relied on african american community involvement

OpenStudy (zale101):

Well, if your talking about primary healthcare of social group i'll say Freedom Summer. This project settled up dozens of Freedom Schools, Freedom Houses, and community centers in small towns throughout Mississippi to aid the local black population.

OpenStudy (sarahc):

I agree, I think the boycott needed a lot of african american community involvement. Probably the answer

OpenStudy (zale101):

The reason i chose the Montgomery buss boycott was many african americans were involved on making a change, but the Freedom of summer helped the african americans community but weren't so highly involved in it like the Montgomery buss boycott.
