Should I take the 2011 course or the 2008 course?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Do you already know some programming? If so, either one is fine. These focus more on the computer science aspects of things and do not teach as much programming. If you are not at least familiar with basic programming techniques, you might want to learn a little about that first. Not necessarily a lot, but enough so that you are not lost when they just start doing things with very little explanation. The 2011 class is a little more developed, but also designed to be a special challenge. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. However, you are not required to stick completely with one or the other! You can try the problems and quizzes in both and get considerably better by doing so. If you need recommendations to get the basics of Python down so you can do the class more easily, here are two good choices: Get to about video 12 here: http://thenewboston.org/list.php?cat=36 They are short and that will get you past installing Python and getting around in it. Go through the first two or three videos here: http://www.py4inf.com/ Also has a free book you can use with it. Choose whichever or both. Continue through as you do the MIT stuff and you will learn the programming in tandem with the computer science aspects from the class.
