i need help solving an inequality with absolute value bars

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[3\left| 2x-1 \right|=-21\]

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

inequality?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

that is an equality

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

|a| = b implies a = b or a = -b so 3|2x-1|=-21 solve for the |term| |2x-1| = -7 now we have to solve two things 2x-1 = -7 and 2x-1 = 7

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Not really possible.

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

o yeah lol

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

sorry im out of it

OpenStudy (primeralph):

If k is always positive, then 3k must be positive.

OpenStudy (primeralph):

@zzr0ck3r I understand why you did what you did, but in reality, there is no solution.

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

|anything| is always positive or 0 so 3|anything| is always positive or 0

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

yeah yeah, I just didn't notice:)

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

do you understand @danny562 ?
