Which line is perpendicular to the line: y = -(1/2)x - 6? y=-(1/3)x-4 Y=2x-4 y=3x+4 y=(1/3)x+4 y=-3x-6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/3?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-1/2 sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks ok now what? @tcarroll010 Im kind of lost when it comes to this stuff

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

just tell her what the negative reciprocal is....the easy way

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

example : 4....negative reciprocal is -1/4.....flip it and change the sign. 2/4 would be -4/2.....5 would be -1/5

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

she might understand it better that way

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

or he....I don't know

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok @texaschic101 thanks is that all?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

I should not have said anything....I think I made him mad

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

do you know the answer ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no i dont this stuff is just confusing

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

ok....the slope for the equation you have is -1/2.....do you understand that ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

if you are looking for a perpendicular line, the slope will be the negative reciprocal....which is 2. You flip 1/2 over and put the opposite sign. Do you understand ?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

oops...-1/2 , flip it over and change the sign

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2/1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-2/1

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

yes....which is 2.....understand ?

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

not negative....it started out negative, but you change the sign and now it is positive

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

so if your slope is 2....look at your answer choices and what equation has a slope of 2

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

remember, y = mx + b.....the m position is your slope

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

did you find it yet ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i understand what you are saying thank u

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

your welcome :)
