solve 2/x+9/x=5

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

\[\frac{2}{x}+\frac{9}{x}=5\]

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes!

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

\[\frac{2}{x}+\frac{9}{x} = \frac{2+9}{x }\] so \[\frac{11}{x}=5\]

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

can you solve this?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the bottom equation?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but wouldn't it be if you're adding it, and you're adding the x's, wouldn't it be x^2?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

(1/2)+(1/2) = ?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

no we don't add the bottom, we add the top

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

think of one half plus one half, this is of course 1 \[\frac{1}{2}+\frac{1}{2} = \frac{1+1}{2}=\frac{2}{2}=1\]
