The perimeter of a rectangle is 24 cm and its dimensions are tripled. What is the perimeter of the larger rectangle?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If you triple the dimensions of a polygon, the perimeter itself is scaled up by a factor of 3. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Try drawing an example, for example take: length=7 width=5 so perimeter = 24 if you triple the dimensions, the perimeter is also tripled

Perfect. Thanks

you're welcome :)

@sarahusher

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its not 24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, what is it?

OpenStudy (psymon):

what was said before is correct. Tripling the dimensions triples the perimeter, but it was just misstated what the perimeter was. If the original perimeter is 24, the larger perimeter is 72.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I stated that if the dimensions were tripled, then so is the perimeter :) I purposefully didn't say the answer, cause I got told off for doing so lol! But sorry if that wasn't clear!
