OpenStudy (lncognlto):

The partial oxidation of CH3(CH2)7CH=CH(CH2)7X gives two aldehydes. Give their formulae. So the one is CH3(CH2)7CHO and the other is OHC(CH2)7CX. Now my question is, where did the C before the the X come from? There were 17 to begin with, and now there are 18.

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

yaa ur true :)

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

see any mistake had happened in book or text

OpenStudy (anonymous):

C shouldn't be there, the formula isn't valid that way, must be a typo. Also, what would X represent?

OpenStudy (lncognlto):

Yes, that's what I thought. Okay, thanks, I will simply leave it out of my answer. X just represents the rest of the molecule.
