What led to the rise of the Populist movement of the Gilded Age?

OpenStudy (wach):

The Gilded Age was a time of enormous growth in America, but also a time of great poverty, with special impact on lower classes and especially farmers. The two 'Panics' of the age were catalysts to depressions in the Gilded Age and more or less bolstered the Populist movement, which was basically built behind farmers.

OpenStudy (wach):

Basically, effects of poverty -> outcry from farmers in the form of the Populist party
