What is the center and radius of the circle with equation (x - 5)^2 + (y + 3)^2 = 16?

Directrix (directrix):

Look at the attached description of how to get the center and radius. Post what you get and we'll compare answers. Okay? @linhsanityy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Directrix I think i get this now! is it (x+5)^2 + (y-3)^2 = 256 ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@directix Oh oops I wrote the equation .. nvm.. one sec let me re do this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Directrix is it center (5, -3); radius = 16 ?

Directrix (directrix):

The center is correct. Try again on the radius.

Directrix (directrix):

Hint: the radius in the circle you posted has been squared. What you see as 16 is r^2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Directrix Oh! so the radius would be 8???

Directrix (directrix):

Square rooting and taking half are not the same. What is the positive square root of 16? That is the radius.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Oh.. so it's 6? @Directrix

Directrix (directrix):

6 times 6 = 36 so 6 is not the radius. You want a number such that the number times itself equals 16. What is it? You'll get it this time! @linhsanityy

OpenStudy (anonymous):

4!!! hahha sorry I didnt mean to type in 6 .. ! >_< @Directrix

Directrix (directrix):

That is correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thank you so much! @Directrix

Directrix (directrix):

Happy to help @linhsanityy
