OK, first look to see which angle or angles are adjacent to the one in question.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

seems like FH is

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Look at adjacent angles that you know the measures of../like EG

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|dw:1374777156717:dw|

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

also, because of the 90 degree angle, m angle EF is 40 degrees

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

Now, remebber that all the angles of a triangle always add up to 360. if all the angles are 50, 90 40, and 40, what does that leave you with?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

360=90x+40

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you can also see that because EH is adjacent that FG would have the same measure...which is how @Jamierox4ev3r got to 40 measures

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

right they are adjacent to each other and therefore congruent

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

50+90+40+40=220 360-220=140

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohh i did add up 50+90+40+40=220 but i thought it would be wrong

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

Therefore, your answer is \(140^\circ\)

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

right but you have to subtract 220 from 360, because all the angles in a circle always add up to 360

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and you can see if you used adjacent property, you would also get 140. Two ways same answer :)

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

thats why i love math; you get choices :D

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

\(\ddot\smile\)
