why did'nt felix baumgartner catch fire when he hurtled through a staggering 1000 km/hr speed from an alitude of 39 kms above the earth's surface?

OpenStudy (unklerhaukus):

not enough O?

OpenStudy (vincent-lyon.fr):

He was too slow: He had not so much kinetic energy to dissipate because he jumped from so small an altitude. Remember when a bit of junk falls back in the atmosphere, it usually comes from at least 400 km above the surface, let alone 36,000 km for a geostationary object, or much more for a meteor.

thanks:)
