when they say that the sum of the dice is odd, it means that in every coordinate, the x and y should add up to be a odd # right?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
is it B? cuz I kinda seems like it..
OpenStudy (ybarrap):
So two random outcomes are {2,3} and {3,6} and this would be different than {3,2} and {6,3}, because we care about order.
The type of events we're looking for are where these two numbers sum to an odd number AND one of them is a 3. So think about all possibilities where one is 3 and the second adds to give an odd number, such as {3,2} or {6,3}. You should now be able to pick out the other possibilities.

*it
OpenStudy (anonymous):
id say it is b because it is the onlyone that clearly makes sence
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yeah, that's why I asked if it was B.
OpenStudy (anonymous):
is it B then? @ ybarrap? cuz it seems like the only one to fit the description..
OpenStudy (ybarrap):
yes

90/(90+70+40)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
I thought it was 90/300??
OpenStudy (anonymous):
@ybarrap cuz ur saying that it's 0.45
OpenStudy (ybarrap):
You are given that they received the shot, so your new sample space is just the 1st row.
OpenStudy (ybarrap):
Of that row, those that are 55+ is .45

ok so its 90/200, which is 0.45?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
D
OpenStudy (ybarrap):
yes
OpenStudy (ybarrap):
The information about flu shots is relevant, because it eliminates the possibility that a random person chose will not have had her flu shot, so 300 in denominator (ie sample space) is too high
OpenStudy (anonymous):
oh ok.

Which choice correctly expresses the probability of the following?
"What is the probability that I will ace this quiz? I mean, I did study awfully hard for it."
A. P(I ace the quiz) | P(I studied hard)
B. P(I ace the quiz and I studied hard)
C. I ace the quiz | I studied hard
D. I ace the quiz and I studied hard
E. P(I ace the quiz | I studied hard)
OpenStudy (anonymous):
ive already asked this but I need to check one more time
OpenStudy (anonymous):
E?
OpenStudy (ybarrap):
yes
OpenStudy (ybarrap):
I have to assume you studied hard, because you said so and E is the right measure give that fact

yea
OpenStudy (ybarrap):
You can exclude C and D because they aren't probabilities and A doesn't make sense. B is smaller than the probability of you acing the test because it intersects with another set.

next:
You roll a red die and a green die. What is the size of the sample space of all possible outcomes of rolling these two dice, given that the red die shows a prime number?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
A.12
B. 9
C. 6
D. 18
E. 24
OpenStudy (ybarrap):
What are the number of ways a single die can be prime?

I don't get how u solve this :/
OpenStudy (ybarrap):
?
OpenStudy (ybarrap):
What are primes?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
numbers that can be divided evenly only by 1 or itself
OpenStudy (ybarrap):
so what are they for a single die. Of 1-6, which are prime?

2,3,5
OpenStudy (ybarrap):
Plus the only even prime, 2
OpenStudy (ybarrap):
What are the restrictions for the other die? That is, of 1-6, what can IT be?
OpenStudy (ybarrap):
(sorry, I didn't see your 2 earlier)

green?
OpenStudy (ybarrap):
Green can be prime or not prime, there were no restrictions

oh ok so 6

right

So if you have 3 forks and 6 spoons, how many different ways can you arrange them (fork on one side, spoon on the other) -- this is the same for our problem

18?

yes

ok so D. :) thanks again

You flip three coins. What is the probability that you get at least two heads, given that you get at least one head?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
A. 4/7
B. 5/8
C. 1/2
D. 3/8
E. 3/7

did u actually solve that?

So @music101 the answer would be?

Wait
The answer could actually be 1/2
OpenStudy (anonymous):
50% because now that you have flip a coin two more times, you can get
Tail Tail
Head Head
Head Tail
Tail Head
You need Head Tail or Tail Head. it is 2 out of the 4 possible. So it would be C. 1/2 =50%
OpenStudy (anonymous):
@music101 the correct answer would be C.
