OpenStudy (meilendurcer):

Which set of three segments can form a triangle? A. 32, 25, 57 B. 55, 67, 13 C. 19, 45, 68 D. 22, 19, 41

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

use this formula: a+b>c b+c>a a+c>b

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

let me show you an example: 32+25 = 57, so it is not greater than 57 and cannot be a triangle.

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

Based from this, do you think you can the rest @meilendurcer ?

OpenStudy (meilendurcer):

@Jamierox4ev3r no.. I don't really understand

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

okay let me do the next, B. 55+67 is greater than 13 YES 67+13 is greater than 55 YES 55+13 is greater than 6 YES because all of the above guidelines in my first post work, the side lengths of answer B. can be a triangle. Does it make sense now?

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

now for C. : 19+45 is greater than 68 NO the guideline is not true so the side lengths for answer C. cannot form a triangle

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

last but not least, D. 22+9 is greater than 41 NO the guideline is not true because 22+9 is equal to 41, so the side lengths of D. cannot form a triangle. Now, that leaves us with one answer

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

the correct answer is B. Do you understand how i arrived at that conclusion @meilendurcer ?

OpenStudy (meilendurcer):

@Jamierox4ev3r Yes, I do understand now Thank You.

HanAkoSolo (jamierox4ev3r):

good im glad :)
