3x+2y=5 x-2y=-1

OpenStudy (magbak):

what do you need to do.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I have another problem as my example but idk how to set it up x-y=2 x=y+2 x+y=1 (y+2)+y=1 2y+=1 2y+-1 y=-1/2 x=y+2 x=(-1/2)+4/2 x=3/2 answer is (3/2,-1/2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that's all it gave me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just add your two equations. 3x+2y=5 x-2y=-1 so adding your x terms with your x terms and y terms with your y terms, you get: 4x = 4 so x=1 Plugging this back into the first equation you get: 3+2y=5 2y=2 so y=1. Therefore, your solution is: (1,1)

It's pretty simple once you get the hang of it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

im lost after 4x=4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you basically just find x=1, right? So since x=1, you just plug that into the first equation to get your y.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I get that but my problem is I have to work it all out on paper

OpenStudy (anonymous):

my teacher say that I have to cancel out the y by subtracting 2 by two then divinging something idk..
