Can someone please help me? As cars passed a checkpoint, the following speeds were clocked and recorded. Speed (mph): 55 62 61 54 68 72 59 61 70 16. What are the minimum, first quartile, median, third quartile, and maximum of the data set? I dont know how to do the quartiles

OpenStudy (austinl):

Quartiles are the halfway point between min median and max

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so the first quartile is 54.5?

OpenStudy (austinl):

Um, \[\frac{Min + Median}{2}\] I didn't take the time to do the math. If that is what you did then you are correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no thats no what i did. but i have the answer now thanks!

OpenStudy (austinl):

No problem!

OpenStudy (austinl):

That is the first quartile.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would i find the third quartile the same way?

OpenStudy (austinl):

\[Q_{3} = \frac{Median + Max}{2}\] All you are doing is finding the midpoint between them.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay i think i got it thank you!

OpenStudy (austinl):

No problem!
