I have 500 shares of common stock issued in January of 1972 by what was originally a Brazilian company which is now owned by Kimberly Clark. I wish to cash in this stock and do not have the slightest idea of how to do this. Please tell me how to proceed and not get duped.

RRZ, Can you give more details on your original shares ? For example: (i) What was the company which you originally had the shares that was acquired by KC ? (ii) Was that a publicly traded company or not ? When was the acquisition ?

Original company was Bacraft S/A industria de papel the main office of which was located at that time in Salvador, Bahia , Brazil. The specific certificate has a number 0427 and consists of 500 shares numbered 10.582.725 to 10.583.224 dated 11 January 1972. and was issued to Robert Ronald Zuidema (me). ( I performed the electrical project for the paper factories initial installation). If I remember correctly the factory is located in a town called Santo Amaro de Purificacao. I do not have the date that Kimberly Clark acquired this company but the info may be available on the internet. Also on the certificate, is a statement that the companies capital at that time was 1.589.809,00 cruzeiros novos. and 750,000 total ordinary shares and 2.250 preferred shares. Thanks for any info as to how I may proceed and transform this to plain usable funds.

Robert, I found some - limited - information on those documents: http://www.cvm.gov.br/dados/LaudEditOpa/RJ-2005-09872/20060303_LAUDO_DE_AVALIACAO.pdf http://www.cvm.gov.br/dados/LaudEditOpa/RJ-2005-09872/20060411_EDITAL_DE_OFERTA_P%C3%9ABLICA.pdf Take a look. It seems that the company was taken private in 2005 with a public offer for the small part of shareholders who still had shares in the company. Maybe if you contact either CVM (the local SEC here in Brazil) or Kimberly Brazil they can tell you what exactly you have to do to sell your remaining shares. Hope this helps a little bit....
