quadratic equations y = −3x^2 − 12x − 14 I got -2 for the x term but i got 22 for y and i think its wrong help?

OpenStudy (compassionate):

There is no y-term, hun. \[\frac{ 6 \pm 1\sqrt{78} }{ 3 }\] x = 4.94 x = 0.94

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

using the quadratic formula, I end up with an imaginary number in the "discriminant"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops i meant its a parabola @Compassionate

OpenStudy (compassionate):

Parabolas only cross the x-axis. They never touch the y-axis. You only solve for x and x1.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just went over it in the lesson and it said after you get the x you plug it in the problem to find the y point for the vertex

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so im trying to fint the vertex

OpenStudy (precal):

use the vertex formula
