factor x2 +8x - 9
(x+9)(x-1).
Just find 2 numbers that when they multiply, you get the third term. When you add them, you get the second term.

I didn't just post the answers. You should see my explanation above.
You posted the answer FIRST

Im a Soldier trying to better my education after 7 years outside of a classroom. its kind of embarassing that Im taking algebra 1 but its actually kicking my retrice Helping me figure out HOW to get the answer helps a lot I'm not trying to take a shortcut, I just really needed the help and this site was recommended
but @Sabot3 Do you understand how to do it?
You're welcome. It would be good if everyone was nice like you.
I would be more than glad to assist you in learning this as much as possible. And thank you for your service I might add. It is refreshing to see someone as polite as you as well.
Thank you, Austin. Can you help me with my question?
I can certainly try.
Thank you for the medal, Sabot3.
I understand that 9 + (-1) = +8 and that 9 x (-1) = -9
@Idealist, welcome thanks for the explanation. I have a several more equations but I am trying to apply what I know first before seeking help. At least I finally found the best place for that expedient assistance
Okay, Sabot3.
But do you understand HOW to get those numbers when first presented with $$x^2 +8x - 9$$
with x^2 +8x−9 I understand it this way (x ) (x ) I am familiar with the FOIL method as well. My biggest issue is determining the second two numbers in the trinomial
My mistake was that I thought the second part was the product and the third number was the solution
I had it backwards
