domain of y=(x^2-3x+2)(x+4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do I just find the x's?

OpenStudy (psymon):

Well, a domain would only exclude 0 in the denominator, a negative square root, or a number inside of a log less than or equal to 0. NONE of those cases apply here, so the domain is all real numbers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahhhh herrroo

OpenStudy (anonymous):

all real numbers excluding like -4 right?

OpenStudy (psymon):

Oh, did you mean to have a division there? It looks like you just multiplied the two parenthesis how you wrote it.

OpenStudy (psymon):

If that is divided by x+4 then yes, all real numbers except -4. I apologize for not realizing there was a division there.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no it is suppose to be multiplied! i'm sorry I need to get back to basics about domains.

OpenStudy (psymon):

Ah. If it is being multiplied then it is as I said before, you do not have any of the situations that would be an undefined value, so it is all real numbers.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks!

OpenStudy (psymon):

Yeah, np :3
