How to install .rpm packages in Linux fedora 18?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

You will need to use an RPM manager, like Yum, up2date, etc. The exact one you pick will depends on if you are doing this at the prompt or in a grapical shell.

OpenStudy (imtiaz7):

i'm unaware of rpm manager give explaination

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Well, RPM actually means Readhat Package Manager.... And people have made assorted front ends for this, so they are Readhat Package Manager Managers. With any of these tools, you can easily install, update, etc. the assorted packages on the system. Are you using the command prompt or a graphical shell. If a shell, which one?

OpenStudy (imtiaz7):

bro actually i learn the fedora 18 from 2 days in computer center so i donot know about that what r u saying please share ur knowledge about this

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Well, I can't answer what might be on your system unless I know what you are using. Fedora can be installed with a grapical shell or a command line shell. I don't know which you are looking at, so I can't tell you what to look for.

OpenStudy (imtiaz7):

i think graphical shell but how i know which shell

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Big foorprint logo? http://www.gnome.org/gnome-3/

OpenStudy (imtiaz7):

what is this

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

I searched for the default grapical shell, and it says they use Gnome. So you may have that installed.

OpenStudy (imtiaz7):

yes i have

OpenStudy (imtiaz7):

now what should i do for .rpm packages

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Ah ha! Well, they have docs for it: http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/18/html/System_Administrators_Guide/part-Package_Management.html Also, I have found that most grapical installs have something in one of the menus for add and remove or packagemanagment or software management or a system management that has software under that.

OpenStudy (imtiaz7):

you do ur well but i learn in properly in my center

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

Well, I don't have Fedora installed. I have CentOS and Ubuntu, but command line only, and I think still have Mint and Debian on virtual macines. You just have a distro I don't use.

OpenStudy (imtiaz7):

thanks for sharing your knowledge

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

From the desktop, looks like the last bit of that help file is what you want: http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/18/html/System_Administrators_Guide/sec-Using_Add_Remove_Software.html
