can someone please help me with this? find the center of mass of a triangle with the vertices (5,8), (5,11) and (9,11)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Krishnadas do you think you could help me out please

OpenStudy (anonymous):

are you sure it is center of mass?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes, this is a practice test question. we did an example in class with a triangle

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but that one was different because two sides were actually the x and y axis

OpenStudy (anonymous):

in math isnt it the same as centroid?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes. that's my mistake i always call it center of mass

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

centroid =[ ( x1+x2+x3)/3 ,( y1+y2+y3)/3 )]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

centroid=5+5+9/3 and 8+11+11/3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

19/3 and 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thank you so much! i spent an hour trying to figure this out. my professor taught it a different way and it confused me

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just stumbled on center of mass..its a physics concept involving mass also
