If the perimeter of a square is 48 yards, find the area of the square. HELP???

OpenStudy (jasmineflvs):

well first what is the solution for finding the perimeter of a square?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

144

OpenStudy (jasmineflvs):

destinys right i think

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

a square has 4 sides of equal length so divide the perimeter by 4 to find the length of 1 side then Area = length x length

OpenStudy (jasmineflvs):

yeah destinys right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a square is perfect on all sides therefore divide 48 by 4 and then you get 12, then to find area you multiply length times width times height and you get 12 times 12 and thats 144.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

nvm its length times width not height. thats volume

OpenStudy (jasmineflvs):

yup

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so if I multiplied 12x48 (length x height) I got 576. is that correct? @destinyc1215

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no. you multiply 12 times another side which is 12 and you get 144. because 48 divided by 4 sides gives you 12 for each side. then multiply two sides getting 12 times 12 and you get 144. @Jdubose2

oooh , gotcha. Thankyou ! @destinyc1215

You're welcome. @Jdubose2
