question below

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Renee took a long flight to visit her family that lives out of the country. She slept for the first half of the trip and watched movies for \[\frac{ 1 }{ 3 }\] of the remaining flight. If the total trip took \[11\frac{ 1 }{ 4 }\] hours, how long did Renee watch movies?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@GoldPhenoix You know?

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Maybe. Let me think.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@GoldPhenoix ok

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

So the trip took 11 1/4 hours, right? Hours?

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

After re-reading a couple of time. The trip took 11 1/4 hours. In the problem, it said that she slept for half of the trip. So what does (11 1/4) / (2) give you?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Its gives you 4 hours?

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

\[\large \large 11 \frac{ 1 }{ 4 } \div 2 =\]

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

^Do you know how to divide those 2 numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

because I used a calculator and it gave me 5.----- so I thought its 4 hours... wanna see my answer choices? @GoldPhenoix

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

I'll look at the answer choices later. So your saying that 11 1/4 divided by 2 give you 5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

answer choices: one and seven-eighths hours two and five twenty-fourths hours 4 hours 6 hours

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Do you know how to do 11.25 / 2 ?

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Oh my bad, didn't look at the other reply. 4 is not correct.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@GoldPhenoix yes and as a fraction you get 5 5/8 and as an improper fraction you get 45/8

OpenStudy (goldphenoix):

Yeah, sorry. Didn't look at the other reply. Yes, 5 5/8. Now this mean that she slept 5 5/8 hours. And since that is half of the trip, she watched tv for 1/3 of the remaining trip. So, |dw:1375136234380:dw|
