Europeans nations that aligned with the United States after World War II were capitalistic and democratic were also members of the Warsaw Pact had centralized authoritarian governments practiced collectivization of farming
The second answer
Actually, the first one is the right answer -- that they were capitalistic and democratic. Many of those, particularly in Europe, were lifted up thanks to the Marshall Plan in order to stem the tide of communism which had dominated Eastern Europe. Japan became our best friend in the Far East thanks to a similar approach in promoting democracy and in getting their economy back on its feet in relatively the same way. The Warsaw Pact was an alliance between a number of countries in Eastern Europe and elsewhere that were aligned with the Soviets, tended to be authoritarian (like the Soviet Union), and practiced collectivization (again, like in the Soviet Union and Communist China).
