what is this \(a\) and \(b\) motif? isn't it good enough to answer the question ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

total area is \(100\) that is your denominator find the area of the favorable outcome and divide

draw a picture

OpenStudy (anonymous):

with two parallel lines \(8=x+2y\) and \(x+2y=20\) enclosed in the square find the area between these lines that is your numerator

OpenStudy (anonymous):

maybe there is a snappier way to do this, but i don't know it

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

It is time to upgrade your skills and your attitude. Get good at it and quit telling yourself you are not good at it. 8 ≤ x+2y ≤ 20 One approach might jet be to draw some lines in your square. 8 - x ≤ 2y ≤ 20 - x 4 - x/2 ≤ y ≤ 10 - x/2 Draw those two inequalities.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

No integration required, here. This can be a simple geometry problem.

OpenStudy (tkhunny):

Personally, I would subtract the two triangular regions, rather than try to calculate the area of the oblique swath. And, thank you for taking my encouragement well!
