Identify the period, phase shift and vertical shift of y=-5sec (x+pi/3). (if applicable) PLease help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@primeralph please help me?

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Period is 2pi as obvious. Phase shift is +pi/3 Vertical shift (Amplitude, I guess) is -5.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ahhh thank you!!! one more?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Identify the period, phase shift and vertical shift of y=-4csc (2x).

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Try.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Show me what you get.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

pahse shift is 2x period is 2pi vertical shift is 4?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is that completely wrong? im sorry, I tried

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Yes. Completely wrong.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

dang it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I really did try

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Phase shift is the k in Af(bx + k). In this case, -4csc (2x) = -4csc (2x + 0) because there is nothing added like in the other example, so phase shift = 0. Period is 2pi/b = 2pi/2 = pi

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Looks confusing now, I know. Try to get some rest.

OpenStudy (primeralph):

Vertical shift is A, meaning -4.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you're right. very confusing. thank you so muchthough

OpenStudy (primeralph):

You're welcome. I can explain better when you feel more inclined to do it. Just tag me.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay great. will do. Thanks, goodnight
