OpenStudy (anonymous):

can someone please help me do some assignments in geometry because if i dont finish them i will have to repeat the year again

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you want help or answers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I will help...but you have to participate not just expect me to give you the answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Post some things up now...and let's get crackin'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No problem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Lol wow ... is it that obvious. I am an engineer now but I taught hs math for over 15 years.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I should be on.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hmmm that is tough to describe. Think of this...Have you ever used googlemaps or mapquest?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok if you zoom in on a map but what you are trying to zoom in on is not in the center of the map (maybe on the edge) ... what happens?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right say the city you want to zoom in on is not in the center but not really at the edge of the map. After you zoom in where is the city at?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well if you zoom in the city will get bigger but it gets shoved to the edge of the screen. and if you keep zooming in it will be shoved entirely off of the screen ... right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok so when you dilate a geometric figure ... say a triangle... you have to think of it like it is part of a map or a graph. You aren't just enlarging the figure but the whole map or graph. If your center of dilation is in the center of the triangle will pretty much stay right where it is but get bigger. BUT if the center of dilation is outside of the triangle then not only will the triangle get bigger but it will move away from the center of dilation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

If the center of dilation is 1 inch from the edge of the triangle and you dilate the figure by a factor of 2 not only will all of the sides of the triangle be twice as big but the triangle's edge will be twice as far from the center of dilation (in other words it would now be 2 inches away from the center of dilation).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Focus is a good way of thinking of it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Not always. Sorry.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You could email me if you want during the week. jon.hayden@dart.biz

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I will try to be on later tonight for you.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I understand. It is difficult. Let's see how we can explain it. What exactly is the question?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well when a figure is dilated what things happen to it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so what is one thing that happens? just give me one thing.
