what is the lusture of sodium

OpenStudy (aaronq):

lusture?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you mean lustre, or wut>

OpenStudy (kainui):

Luster, as in, is Sodium shiny? No, not really. It looks like a dull grey substance.

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

Freshly exposed, sodium has a bright, silvery luster that rapidly tarnishes, forming a white coating of sodium hydroxide and sodium carbonate. inside is the pure Na and outside is oxide layer You can differentiate the color here

OpenStudy (kainui):

I've never seen fresh sodium then. Damn, I lived an empty life.

OpenStudy (kainui):

Wait, I wouldn't call that "Bright silvery" that's just dull grey. It's my opinion, I was just describing from personal experience to begin with pffft. Whatever.

OpenStudy (chmvijay):

the pic is not so high resolution dude :) the silvery and grey always look the same :)
