i need someone willing to explain to me how to graph functions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hello

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok, but i wasnt clear. i know how to graph f(x)=x^2, you just pick out maybe -2,-1,0,1,2 use these for x, then plug in numbers for x and use the answer for y.....this will give you 5 points on graph. my problem is f(x)=-(x-1)^2 +4

@Luis_Rivera

OpenStudy (mertsj):

The graph of f(x)=-(x-1)^2+4 is like f(x)=x^2 except for: 1. the minus sign makes it concave downward instead of upward. 2. Its vertex is (1,4) instead of (0,0)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

even that the directions says to graph the quadratic function?

OpenStudy (mertsj):

Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well in my example i thought it made a straight line or sections of straight line. this parabola graph, i kno nothing about. the vertex 1 and 4, i see it in the problem, but i dont know to graph this, nor any similar.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats what i said, but can i do that for this problem as well?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i did the math problems from table, but doesnt make what everyone else is saying, and they are saying 1 4 vertex wtf ever that means
