The base of an isosceles triangle is 16 units, and each side is 10 units. What is the area of this triangle in square units?

There is 2 things you can do here. Use Heron's formula as @mayankdevnani suggested OR you could use the following method instead if you don't know the Heron's formula. Firstly, drop a perpendicular from A to BC in @mayankdevnani triangle drawing:|dw:1375792070820:dw|Now this is the height of the triangle which we calculated to be 6. Now use the handy dandy (base x height) / 2 to get the area of the triangle. Here our base is 16 and height is 6. GO! @Hedy
