I think it's D? Am I correct? Choose the slope-intercept equation of the line that passes through the point (6, -6) and is perpendicular to y = 3x - 6. y = 1/3x - 8 y = -3x + 12 y = 3x - 24 y = -1/3x - 4

Do you think you could help :) ? @precal

OpenStudy (precal):

what do you know about perpendicular?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That they intersect, ohhh then D isn't the answer because D would be parellel

OpenStudy (precal):

yes d is parallel so we know it is not d

OpenStudy (precal):

perpendicular means that it has to be the opposite sign but remember to flip the number so what are you looking for?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

We're looking for -3x? So would it be B?

OpenStudy (precal):

no flip 3 it turns into 1/3 but we do need the opposite sign

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohhhh then it's A?

OpenStudy (precal):

no opposite of positive is negative we need -1/3 that is what makes it perpendicular

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I was right it is D?

OpenStudy (precal):

yes but I wanted you to know why you were correct. Now be careful they could have given you multiple equations with -1/3 you can always sub the point in to make sure it crosses that point

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ohhh okay :) Thanks!
