Which of the following is an example of positive correlation? A the age of a child and the height of that child B the number of students in a school and the number of stores nearby C the age of pets in a home and the number of pets in that home D the temperature outside and the number of layers of clothing

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Positive correlation is when one variable goes up when the other goes up (or they both go down). For example, if we INCREASE the temperature outside, that would DECREASE the layers of clothing we would wear, so that is NOT positive correlation. On the other hand, if I INCREASE the number of sodas I drink, I will also INCREASE my rate of tooth decay, so that IS an example of positive correlation.

so the answer could be B?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's possible that those might be correlated (more children in a neighborhood would likely mean more people and therefore more stores), but I don't think that's the answer they're looking for.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think they're looking for A, because it's almost always the case that as a child's age increases, his/her height will increase as well.

oh okay thank you!

No problem :)
