write the equation of the line in point slope form. has a slope of 5/2 and passes through point (1,8) ?

OpenStudy (ash2326):

@broderick365 Let's have a point (x, y) on the line. So we have two points (x, y) and (1, 8) Can you find the slope using these two points?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

5/2

OpenStudy (ash2326):

I mean, don't see the slope given. Assume it's not there, how would you find it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

idk

OpenStudy (ash2326):

Do you understand what it means by slope?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (ash2326):

What does it mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to find the slope of the line

OpenStudy (ash2326):

Ok, I'll explain, slope of a line is the change in y with respect to x. That's more of a mathematical definition. It represents how a line rises or falls as x increases, if slope is positive line rises as x increases

OpenStudy (ash2326):

Now if slope is negative then line will fall as x increases |dw:1375893946469:dw|

OpenStudy (ash2326):

Are you following? @broderick365

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yses can we speed this up

OpenStudy (ash2326):

We can use any two points on a line to find its slope, let's say we have two points (x1, y1) and (x2, y2) Slope ( say m) is given by \[m=\frac{y2-y1}{x2-x1}\] Can you use this to frame an equation for our problem?
