OpenStudy (anonymous):

A biological polymer contains alanine, tyrosine, and lysine. Which of the following will be true about this molecule? A. DNA B. Strong base C. Phospholipid D. Protein

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What, are you just quizzing people?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's not DNA...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No @InYourHead

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah it's not DNA. Alanine, Tyrosine, and Lysine are all amino acids. You know what amino acids make, when they chain together?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Proteins.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Is it 'D'

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is protein?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Chains of amino acids. They're the building blocks of what makes us. Like lego pieces.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

These little things: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_PFrXn0H2Cao/TU2ppuU5JcI/AAAAAAAABeE/jLd8_rZTcMc/s400/IMG_0507.JPG We use them to build bigger things. You ever seen them?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, we basically put them together and build things with them. That's kind of like what proteins are. Proteins are used to build us.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Proteins are used to build our cells?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Protein molecule is constructed frm chains of compounds called amino acids, which contain carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen as well as occasionally sulphur.proteins also play i mportant role in repairing n re.generating body tissues, and are key player in growth process...

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yeah. Our cells are more than just proteins, of course. There's nucleic acids and lipids and carbohydrates too. Most of our bodies are water. About 60% water. What is not water is mostly protein.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@xxAshxx Why proteins contain carbon.,hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen ? You said Protein molecule is constructed frm chains of compounds called amino acids, which contain carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen as well as occasionally sulphur

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen are the basic elements in amino acids. We have to think of one level at a time. Carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen are at the atomic level. The next level up is the molecular level. That's amino acids and proteins.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Our body has more water than proteins?@InYourHead What is not water is mostly protein. ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Got it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Explain me phospholipids

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Here's a picture of a phospholipid: http://www.freethought-forum.com/images/anatomy2/phospholipid.gif It's a lipid, with at least one phosphate group attached to it. Do you know what a cell membrane looks like? Our cell membranes have two layers of phospholipids.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It looks like a plastic bag wid small holes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So you already know what a phospholipid looks like. It has a round head and two tails. Like this: |dw:1375959034562:dw| Here's a cell membrane: http://citadel.sjfc.edu/students/map01009/e-port/ppt/cell_membrane.png
