What is the height of the triangle if the area is thirty-five square meters?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i just put it up there

OpenStudy (anonymous):

confused what is the 14 in this picture?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it is the base

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is what i am mostly confused about

http://www.mathsisfun.com/area.html

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you need to find its height using Pythagoras Theorem

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am confused, because if 14 is the base, the picture has 14 larger than 15 if 14 is not the base, i am not sure h how to find the base

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if 14 is the base, it is easy area is one half base times height, so \[35=\frac{1}{2}14\times h=7\times h\] making \[h=\frac{35}{7}=5\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Area of a triangle = 12×base×height 35=12×14×h

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i don't see how the base can be 14, as it is smaller than the side that has length 15 !!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i am so confused about that to @satellite73 @EmmaMoer can you explain
