How do i find the x-intercept and the y-intercept when solving for a system of linear equations?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A "system of linear equations" does not have an x-intercept and a y-intercept unless the solution to the system is (very rarely) a straight line. To find the x-intercept of an "equation" (not a system) set y=0 and solve for x; to find the y-intercept of an "equation" set x=0 and solve for y.
