OpenStudy (hiroromon):

How do i find the resultant velocity when a glider is floating through the sky at 45 miles per hour with a heading of 50 degrees north of west when it meets a head wind of 10 mph blowing 45 degrees south of east.

OpenStudy (amistre64):

you did right to add the vectors ... just right them up in their respective cos sin parts

OpenStudy (hiroromon):

like what is velocity? how do i find it? i know how to find the magitude and stuff i just don't know the formula for getting velocity

OpenStudy (amistre64):

180 - 50 = 130 45 cos(130) X + 45 sin(130) Y + 10 cos(-45) X + 10 sin(-45) Y ----------------------------- resultant (X,Y)

OpenStudy (amistre64):

the magnitude of the resultant will be the magnitude

OpenStudy (amistre64):

or we can walk a law of cosines if you just want the magnitude of the resultant

OpenStudy (hiroromon):

why did you use 130 to find the velocity?
