OpenStudy (anonymous):

What does it mean when scientists say that living organisms share a universal genetic code?

OpenStudy (abb0t):

Exactly what it says in the sentence. We share a code (shown below) with every living organism.

OpenStudy (zale101):

One codon is 3 nucleotides, and it "codes" for one amino acid

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the genetic code is universal .it is same in almost all the organisms.for example AGA specifies arginine in bacteria, in humans and all other organisms whose genetic code has been studied. bcoz of the universality of codon , the genes can be transfered from one organism to another and be successfully transcribed and translated in their new host.
