What are the roots of the equation x2− 5x + 6 = 0? (1) 1 and −6 (3) −1 and 6 (2) 2 and 3 (4) −2 and −3

OpenStudy (psymon):

Roots are basically x-intercepts. You're solving for x here to find your roots. So this is a quadratic that we need to factor. Quadratics come in theform of ax^2 + bx + c As you can see, a is 1, b is -5, and c is 6. In order to factor this, you need to find factors of A*C that add up to b. Basically. factors of 6*1 that add up to -5.

okay

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so (x+5) (x+1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no x is 2 and 3 right?

OpenStudy (psymon):

Right, x = 2 and x = 3.

thank you
