Step 1: Please watch the slideshow on how to get the most of out of your interview. You can even print out a transcript of the steps to bring along with you to your interview. You will need to bring the list of interview questions with you to the interview. Step 2: Locate someone to interview. You may choose to interview a relative, a friend of the family, a neighbor, a coach, a teacher, or an administrator at your school. Whomever you choose, be sure that the person is willing to talk to you and was born before 1970. Anyone born later would not remember enough about being personally affected by the Cold War. Step 3: It is wise to ask your subject for permission to record the interview. If the interviewee agrees, bring a tape recorder, MP3 recorder, smart phone, iPod, or other audio recording device along with you to record the complete interview. Again, if you do choose to record, please ask the interviewee for permission. Step 4: During the interview, it is wise to take notes with pen and paper or with your computer. Jot down or type reminders of things your subject says that you consider important, questions you want to ask as follow-up, and notes about how your subject answers a question. Don’t forget to bring your list of interview questions! Step 5: When the interview is over, thank the subject for their time and for helping you. It might even be a kind gesture to send him or her with a thank you card or thank you e-mail for taking the time to sit down with you and conduct the interview. Step 6: To complete this assignment, use your audio recording or notes to summarize your interview. If your interview subject agrees, you may edit your audio recording of the interview and present it as a podcast, instead of a written summary. You must be sure that you include all of the questions and answers in your selected delivery method. Your final submission must also include a reflection that thoroughly answers the following questions: What from the interview did I find most surprising? How might a Russian adult have responded to the interview?
