A box contains 5 right handed gloves and 6 left handed gloves. If Sabina randomly removes 1 glove from the box, how many times must she remove a glove in order to be certain to get a right handed glove?

OpenStudy (kropot72):

Assuming that the gloves are not replaced after each selection, Sabina must remove all the 6 left handed gloves before she can be certain of getting a right handed glove. Obviously it is highly likely that she will get a right handed glove before having to remove all 6 left handed gloves, however the question asks for certainty.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@kropot72 so she'd have to remove one glove at a time six times?

OpenStudy (kropot72):

There is a probability of randomly selecting 6 left handed gloves one after the other. To deal with that case, 6 gloves must be removed before Sabina can be certain of drawing a right handed glove.

OpenStudy (kropot72):

So if 7 gloves are drawn, at least one must be right handed.
