2^x=4^x+1

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

so the question is \[2^x = 4^{x +1}\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yeah

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2^x = 4^(x + 1) = 2^(2x + 2) x = 2x + 2 x = -2

OpenStudy (1018):

you could make the equations in the same base. What I mean is make the 4 into a 2. :)

OpenStudy (campbell_st):

ok... so you need the same base... so 4= 2^2 so you need \[2^x = (2^2)^{x + 1}\] can you simplify the right hand side using the power of a power index law..?
