does anyone know the correct pronunciation of "route"? is it like "root" or "rowt"? sorry for this question i'm just confused right now..
I'm pretty sure both pronunciations are fine, actually. I've heard rumors that it's pronounced differently depending on the particular region in America. The word "route" can be a noun or a verb. When I use it as a noun, I say (root). When I use it as a verb, I say (rowt). That's just how I personally do it. But my point is that it's all the same.
Are you from America?
Here, I've got something you might find interesting. I know I'm really pushing the topic a little far. But I have these maps that show us how the same word is pronounced differently in different parts of America: http://www.thejournal.ie/maps-americans-pronounce-different-words-938575-Jun2013/
The difference seems to be between the American and the English use of the same language. Originally, this word stems from French, who will pronounce this word like 'root'. Probably due to the close distance between France and England here in Europe, the English have continued the pronunciation like in France. The Americans have put their own twist into it and have turned the pronunciation into 'rowt' as you already stated yourself. Cultural difference therefore.
in india its rowt
