How do I become a Moderator or Ambassador.(My last question had a typo)

OpenStudy (jack1):

get your smartscore above 20... then they'll come to you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok thanks!

thomaster (thomaster):

In order to become moderator, you have to win the respect of this community through interaction, knowledge and the ability to interact and intervene in an appropriate manner. You can become mod when the administrators feel that you have the qualities of a good moderator based on how you interact with other community members. The only way to get there is to become an active, helpful member of OpenStudy and hope you get lucky when they decide to add more moderators! You also have to be 18+. It is also useful to be an expert in a particular field. Most mods on this site are math geniuses. I think becoming a moderator is a long process of trust and you probably won't usually get there in just a few months. If you realy want this site to be a better place you can also help by applying for ambassador :)

OpenStudy (uri):

LOL @Jack1

OpenStudy (uri):

@UsArmy3947 You can know here.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

For Ambassador, read this: http://blog.openstudy.com/2012/03/23/openstudys-ambassador-program/

OpenStudy (preetha):

@Karatechopper helps run the Ambi program. Contact her. And if the mods see you behaving well, someone will recommend you. Have to be 18+ to be a mod.

OpenStudy (karatechopper):

I will PM you!

OpenStudy (jack1):

ok in all honesty there are 3 ways to become an Ambassador: 1. U need to be 18+ and be voted in/ approved by a jury of 7 other Ambassadors/Mods 2. You need to be the firstborn son/daughter of a current Ambassador/Mod 3. You can inherit the title if you kill a current Ambassador/Mod in unarmed combat

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Kill an ambassador? Be the firstborn? and do you have to be 18 to be ambassador?

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

@kenleyambroise That was something @Jack1calls "being funny" or "humor." Most of us have another name for it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh ok

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do we really have to scan a copy of a photo id?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but my school id hasnt come in yet im still waiting to get it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hey I am 18

OpenStudy (jack1):

@e.mccormick c'mon dude, dont be such a sourpuss, @thomaster had answered the question legitimately in the 2nd reply post, i think from the tone and the content that anyone could pickup on the facetious nature of my last post, is there a law against "humor" on OS, or are you just getting grumpy in ur twilight years o.0 besides, i think my idea has it's merits, if u were an ambi, i'd be laying down the challenge right now and we can settle this by the rules of agni kai (jk) ;D

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

@Jack1 1) There is little tone in text unless certain words are used... ones you left off. Remember, people can't "hear" how you "say" things with your fingers unless it is in sign language. 2) Sarcasm and humor are the hardest things for non native speakers of a language to learn and this place is full of ESL learners. 3) Neither you nor kenleyambroise showed any emotes and therefore any humor was not evident by other indicators. 4) I never said what the rest of us called it, but you assumed the worst. What would you have thought if I had put a ;-) or =P at thew end? 5) The person had already been confused once by your first, flippant answer and there you were undoing all thew work @thomaster put in.... if your first thing confused them, as evidenced by their "Ok thanks!"[sic] reply to your message, did you think they were going to get it right when yo piled on more? 6) I am sure that @uri is against Agni Kai. First they would have to become a Firebender. Since they are not in the Western Hemisphere, that would require emigration, thus making even the start an impractical problem. 7) You could have just linked the blog, then made some "humorous" comments. 8) Twilight years? I am not a teenage girl that is on love with an idiotic TV show. Twilight years my anatomy! 9) Yes, humor is illegal. Not all forms, but it has been regulated for quite some time. For example, a fake mustache that causes laughter in church is illegal. In Louisiana, certain squirt gun jokes are illegal. New York has regulated certain maneuvers in the game of dodge ball. http://www.lawguru.com/weird/part01.html Frankly I am surprised you did not know that humor was regulated. The state of education leaves something to be desired... ahem.

thomaster (thomaster):

@jack1 lol there's no comeback from that haha XD #Pwn3d

OpenStudy (jack1):

dude... that was EPIC! medal awarded, honestly I haven't been schooled like that since I tried sarcasm on my yr 9 english teacher and he tore me to shreds (verbally) in front of 30 peers. hats off to u @e.mccormick , you're wits are still sharp... [even in the autumn years of your life] ;P

OpenStudy (uri):

* I am sure that @uri is against Agni Kai. First they would have to become a Firebender. Since they are not in the Western Hemisphere, that would require emigration, thus making even the start an impractical problem* -me on understand what u say

thomaster (thomaster):

@uri probably because you didn't watch Avatar: The last airbender c:

OpenStudy (uri):

Yeah i didn't.I remember when it was released i had my final exams going on.All my cousins went to watch in 3D.

thomaster (thomaster):

Oh I'm talking about the animated series, not that crappy movie :p

OpenStudy (uri):

I don't watch those stuff i woudn't know.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

" Twilight years" has nothing to do with that show. he is calling you old . @e.mccormick

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

@modphysnoob I was giving an example of how cultural differences can lead to misunderstandings. If someone who does not know English natively were to search for twilight, what would they get? https://www.google.com/search?q=twilight Not exactly what was intended.... So why is this important? Well, lets look at a very recent post to OS: http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/521952f0e4b0750826df4420 Ta da! Welcome to the world, where people speak more than English and America is only a fraction of the landmass. If you are in Britain and ask to borrow a rubber it is the way to get an eraser and so on. That is just a close cousin to what is spoken in America and there are differences like that. I have helped people in China, France, and more with math, software, and even English. This makes communicating clearly an important factor. Humor, fun as it can be, simply does not translate well. Tone, though possible to be seen by native speakers, does not survive Google Translate. If I told you 三日坊主 and you toss it into Google Translate you get "Unsteady worker" https://translate.google.com/?q=%E4%B8%89%E6%97%A5%E5%9D%8A%E4%B8%BB&um=1&ie=UTF-8&hl=en&sa=N&tab=wT The true translation is three day monk and is a reference to someone that starts things while saying they are devout and committed... but a few days later that is all gone and they are doing nothing. The same thing happens to other people all the time when they try to understand English. Heck, wars have happened over misunderstandings and I bet some of those were just due to the language involved!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

he didn't just say twilight , he said twilight years; but anyway nice saving yourself

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and twilight years is much older and widespread phrase than twilight the movie, any well read person would understand what it mean

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

And twilight years is a cultural reference. If someone knows what years is and searches for twilight? Well read.... OK, so they read Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Pushkin, and so on... all in Russian. See, you are assuming that well read means Native English Speaker. A person can be well read by learning all the classics of Japan, be taught English all the way through college, and still get mystified by simple terms. That happens in Japan all the time.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

by your logic , we can't say anything since someone somewhere in the world would misinterpret/misunderstand it. Twilight year is well known phrase . In case , you haven't noticed , most of the question are in English here, it is the language here on this site. if someone isn't a native speaker and didn't know the phrase, well this is a chance for him/her to learn it. Just because you saw the word twilight and assume it was a the movie, it didn't require you to write semi-essay to defend yourself. Simply admitting will do fine.

OpenStudy (e.mccormick):

@modphysnoob Aaaaah. Now I get it. You are just another troll for me to ignore.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@e.mccormick, I see you have no logical argument left(not that you had any to begin with) .so when presented with a rational response, you resort to character defamation.
