write the slope-intersept form of the equation of the line passing through the point(-5, 1) and perpendicular to the line y=4/3x=4

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

We know that the equation has to be perpendicular, meaning the slope is the negative reciprocal: 4/3---->-3/4 And they give you the points (-5, 1) Now just plug this info into the point-slope formula: y-y1=m(x-x1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what is the y1

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

(x1, y1)----> (-5, 1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then wht is y and x

OpenStudy (luigi0210):

they're just variables like in: y=mx+b

im so confused
