|x-3|(

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x >= -2 or x <= 8

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do you get that?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

when it's said that => |x-3| they really mean +1(x-3) AND -1(x-3) so you'd end up with 2 values for "x"

OpenStudy (anonymous):

|x -3|<= 5 means either x -3 <= 5 or -(x-3) <=5 so if we solve this two linear equations independently x <= 5+3 or -x +3 <= 5 x<= 8 or -x <= 5 -3 x<=8 or -x <=2 x<=8 or -(-x) >= -2 when inequality sing is negated it changes sign(from >= to <=) x<=8 or x >= -2

thanks so much
