Factor x^2 − 2x + 3 (x − 3)(x − 1) (x + 3)(x + 1) (x − 3)(x + 1) Prime

OpenStudy (psymon):

SO when you have a form of Ax^2 + Bx + C = 0, you need to find factors of AC that add up to B. So in your case, A is 1 and C is 3. So we need to multiply 1 and 3, then see if we can find factorsof that that will add up to -2.

then what?

OpenStudy (psymon):

Did you find the factors of 3 that add up to -2?

OpenStudy (psymon):

You shouldn't be able to find any : ) The possible combination of factorsof POSITIVE 3 are 1 and 3 or -1 and -3. Those factors multiply to getpositive 3, but they cannot add up to get a negative 2. This means that your trinomial is prime. Do you see why?
