What is the equation of the following line written in general form? (The y-intercept is -1.) https://media.glynlyon.com/g_alg01_2012/3/80b.gif 2x + y - 1 = 0 -2x - y - 1 = 0 2x - y - 1 = 0 do i just backtrack on these and how ? @texaschic101

OpenStudy (anonymous):

general form: y = mx + b m is the slope and b is the y intercept. they tell you the y intercept is -1. the slope is found by taking any two points (x,y) and \[m = \frac{ y_2 - y_1 }{ x_2 - x_1 }\] you an use the points (0,-1) [given y intercept] and (2,3) [easy to spot point]

seems they want you to use (0, -1) and (1,1) [a given point]

OpenStudy (texaschic101):

look at the graph.....your y axis is -1.....your slope is rise/run...so the slope will be 2/1 or just 2. y = 2x - 1 the answer choices suggest they moved the y over to the other side. so subtract y from both sides 0 = 2x - y - 1 I think..... I originally moved everything over to the y side and got -2x + y + 1 = 0, but that is not a choice.
