What is a quartic function with only the two real zeros given? x = -4 and x = -1 A. y = x^4 + 5x^3 + 5x^2 + 5x + 4 B. y = x^4 - 5x^3 - 5x^2 - 5x - 4 C. y = -x^4 + 5x^3 + 5x^2 + 5x + 4 D. y = x^4 + 5x^3 + 5x^2 + 5x - 5

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

off x = -4 and x = -1 what do you think are the equation for those 2 fellows?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no idea..

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

ok, if I had a function like say => (x + 3)(x-5) what do you think are the roots for that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no idea lol, i have no idea what im at here.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i have two x's not an equation..?

OpenStudy (jdoe0001):

yes, but you can get the equation from those roots, thus

OpenStudy (debbieg):

If I want a polynomial function to have a root of x=1, then it needs to have a factor of x-1. If I want an equation to have a twice-repeated root of x=1, then it needs to have two factors of x-1, that is, (x-1)^2 And so on..... if c is a root, then x-c is a factor.
